The Cave of Melissani in Kefalonia, Greece is truly a spectacular sight. There is an island in the middle of the cave surrounded by forestry. The cave is composed of two different chambers that a separated by an island and is a very popular tourist site.
The color of the water in the caves changes with sunlight. In the bright sun the water is light blue and gives the illusion the cave is giving off a blue light. This light makes the cave unique and truly a spectacular sight like something out of a fairy tale.
In Greek mythology, the cave of Melissani was the cave of “nymphs” because the cave’s lake is surrounded with forest.
